Candis supports Children's Hospices UK
Candis recently chose Children's Hospices UK as one of its nominated charities. The charity gives voice and support to the UK's 43 children's hospice services. Support from Candis will help Children's Hospices UK realise its vision for every child who is not expected to reach adulthood to have access to the highest standards of children's hospice care and support close to home.
"It's every parent's worst nightmare to be told their child will die before them. But for an estimated 20,000 families across the UK, this is a reality," explains Barbara Gelb, chief executive, Children's Hospices UK. "Some of these children will die when they're very young; others will deteriorate slowly over a number of years. In most cases, full-time care falls to the parents - 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The families affected are under huge emotional, physical and financial strain.
"The support of Candis and its members will enable children's hospice services, which depend almost entirely on donations, to continue to help children and families in these situations deal with the emotional and physical challenges they face and to make the most of life. Together Candis and Children's Hospices UK aim to help ensure that all life-limited children and their families have the care and support they need for every step of their journey."

Money received from Candis Club will help Children's Hospices UK...
- maintain a wide range of services including specialist care, 24-hour telephone support, advice and information, and bereavement support for all family members
- continue to welcome the whole family for a break in friendly, homely surroundings and provide practical help in people's own homes
- fund nursing and care staff and support the delivery of care within every local children's hospice
- reach new families
- spread the word about the vital services on offer and challenge misconceptions about children's hospices
Children's Hospices UK receives 22% of all Candis Club donations. From October 2008 to October 2009, the first year of the new partnership, Candis expects to give Children's Hospices UK £200,000 to help provide care for sick and disabled children and their families across the UK.
