OPEN FOR BUSINESS: Comedian and television presenter Nick Hancock performed the official opening of a charity shop.

He cut the ribbon at the new Donna Louise Children's Hospice Trust store in Stafford Street, Hanley, along with three-year-old hospice user William Simpson and the youngster's mum, Tracey, above.

Melanie Mills, head of fundraising and PR for the hospice, said: "Shops are an important income source for charities especially during times of recession.

"During these challenging economic times, it is vital that we are innovative in our strategy so that we are able to not only sustain our services in the present climate, but also pave the way for growing our services."

All customers spending £10 or more in the Hanley shop yesterday were entered into a prize draw.
