POTTERS RAISE OVER £9,000 FOR LOCAL CHARITY

Stoke City are delighted to reveal the club yesterday handed over a cheque worth over £9,000 to the Donna Louise Trust.

Players, management and administration staff were all invited to donate either a full day or half a day's pay to the Trust which is based at the Treetops building in Trentham.

A huge number of staff took up the offer and a tremendous total of £9,334.30 was raised before being handed over to one of the clubs chosen charities.

Club captain Andy Griffin was on hand to hand over the cheque and speaking to stokecityfc.com he said it is a charity very close to his heart.

"I have been here quite a few times now with the rest of the other lads, and I must say it is a very touching place.

"I am a parent myself and to have a child who is terminal ill must be the worst thing in the world.

"Coming here brings you back down to reality and you realise how lucky you are. As soon as the proposition was put forward about donating money, myself and the players didn't have to think about it twice."

The Donna Louise Children's Hospice Trust provides respite for children between the age of 0 and 19 with life threatening conditions and support for the whole family at the hospice and in their own home.

Currently the Trust cares for 160 children from South Cheshire and Staffordshire. It does not receive any government funding; its annual running costs of £2 million are obtained from public donations.

Chief Executive Tony Scholes says: "Its one of our clubs chosen charities but these are personal donations as it comes from members of staff who chose to give up some of their earnings.

"To raise over £9,000 is a superb achievement and I would like to thank every member of staff who donated to this fantastic charity."

Melanie Mills, Head of Fundraising and Public Relations added: "We are absolutely delighted at this generous donation.

"Stoke City are wonderful supporters of the charity, and it means so much to our children to have their support.

“This money will go directly towards helping children with life threatening conditions."
